Commonwealth Chiropractic - Massage Therapy

Massage provides tremendous therapeutic benefits, which complement chiropractic care by relieving a number of ailments, such as stress, insomnia, headaches, digestive difficulties and even hyperactivity. We offer integrated massage therapy to our patients by certified and licensed massage therapists, at convenient times and affordable fees.

TECHNIQUES WE OFFER

Muscular Therapy: based on Swedish Massage and includes 300 strokes to relieve pain and discomfort due to tension, stress and injury. This technique combines the benefits of relaxation and deep tissue massage. It enhances circulation to allow increased joint mobility. Massage has been shown to help individuals relax from the daily stressors of living, as well as to help with specific muscular-skeletal injuries.

Shiatsu ("finger pressure"): originated in Japan, it utilizes acupuncture points of Oriental healing concentrating on unblocking the flow of energy and restoring balance in the meridians and organs to promote self-healing. The therapist applies pressure with the finger, thumb, palm, elbow, or knee to spots along energy meridians. The treatment brings relaxation while stimulating blood and lymphatic flow. The benefits of this treatment may include pain relief and a strengthening of the body's resistance to disease and disorder. This technique is performed clothed and is usually done on the floor. Please wear comfortable and non restrictive clothing (yoga or workout type clothing).

Reflexology: is an ancient form of healing that can be traced to the Egyptians over 4,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that there are reflex areas on the feet corresponding to all the parts of the body including major organs. Studies support that applying pressure to specific areas on the feet can affect internal organs and body systems, thus promoting good health.
Chair massages can be done anywhere. The most common places are parties, doctor's waiting rooms, and at work. Studies have shown that 15-minute chair massages reduce stress and increase the worker's productivity.

Reiki: healing modality that enhances a patients energy by the trained practitioner placing his/her hands in a series of positions slightly above or on a patients body. Reiki is increasingly used pre-and-post surgically for both relaxation and pain relief.

Sports Massage: massage strokes designed to enhance athletic performance and aid in the recovery after an athletic event. Sports massage can reduce or eliminate muscle spasms, tendonitis, muscle fatigue and post-event soreness. It is muscle-specific and may combine classic relaxation strokes, trigger point work, compression, range of motion and stretching.

Trigger Point Work: sustained pressure applied to areas of the body that, due to stress or injury, refer pain or tingling elsewhere in the body. This sustained pressure at specific points, along with proper breathing, relieves pain and enhances circulation in the affected area(s).

Body Care Education: explanation and demonstration of particular exercises and other self-care modalities (e.g., ice, heat, diaphragmatic breathing, meditation, visualization, self-massage) to enhance the patients well being.

Infant Massage Instruction: Parents and other loved ones can be taught how to massage their child so that they are facilitating good health in their children. This is a bonding experience that has invaluable benefits for the infant, such as better sleeping habits, less colic, improved digestion, and less stress hormone. There are many studies that show the benefits of infant massage, especially in premie babies.

Pregnancy Massage: Specific positions and techniques during massage can reduce pregnancy discomforts while enhancing the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus.

Muscular Release Technique (RMT): injury therapy that combines compression, extension, movement and breath work to break up scar tissue, lengthen muscles, restore muscle memory and alleviate pain. RMT has been used effectively with several chronic conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendinitis, Plantar Fasciitis, Sciatic Syndrome, Hammer Toes and Fibromyalgia.
